Coho Christmas Tree Fly Recipe and Tying Video

The Coho Christmas Tree is a staple fly pattern for local fall river coho anglers. It’s a fantastic attractor that produces! We like to think of the Christmas Trees as small spinners or spoons for coho. We tie them in colour combinations that match my favourite lures. Silver with blue or green with gold are winners and even different coloured beads can trigger a bite. Gold or copper flash with an orange bead or thread collar can be effective.

It’s a good idea to keep an eye on guys throwing lures near you to see what colours they are catching fish with and tie on a Christmas Tree to match as best you can.  Fish this fly with an erratic jerky retrieve or a long steady strip. The fish will let you know which they prefer. If you have yet to try one, it is definitely a worthwhile addition to your coho box this fall!
